Thank you for your interest in Acting Up! Drama classes. Hopefully the information below should cover everything you need but if you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me and I will be more than happy to help.
I work with teens, adults, pre schoolers and the elderly in other locations, if I can gain the interest I would be keen to start other classes up at Strensham Village Hall as well. At present I offer the following classes at Strensham:
Young Stars 1.30pm 4-7 years
Rising Stars 2.30pm 8-12 years
Young Stars
Drama and play have huge benefits within a child’s development, especially in those crucial early years, and particularly when it comes to utilising those all important social skills which enable children to function as successful and happy individuals in all aspects of life. This class is ideal for 4-7 year olds. Children will cover a variety of drama based games, trust exercises, mime and improvisation, basic characterisation, confidence building, and drama through the use of props, dressing up, stories and fairy tales. Some simple poems and prose work will be covered for the more confident readers. Our younger members will have the opportunity to express themselves through discussion, and show and tell within these sessions. Literacy will play a big part of my teaching and where possible I strive to incorporate numeracy as well. A fabulous and educational introduction to the world of drama.
Rising Stars
This class is dedicated to 8-11 year olds. It will be a fun and fast paced session which will include a number of warm up exercises and games which will include techniques to combat those inevitable pre performance nerves. Children will learn to work as a team work and build trust. They will develop the confidence to perform individually (if they wish) in a variety of different ways. Character development will be covered, along with spontaneous and polished improvisation and mime. We will also look at text work, audition techniques and children will have opportunity to try their hand at poetry and prose.
With younger children drama and play are key to their social and emotional development so we do a lot of imaginative and creative role play. I also include numeracy, literacy, arts and culture and learning about the world wherever I can which are all elements to be covered in those early years. We do a lot of show and tell circle time so they can develop their public speaking and listening skills. We will also do reading and text work where possible.
For the older category, who are genuinely interested in drama we work on all aspects from improvisation, mime, text work to audition technique. Children learn how to work as a team and individually, They will improve their public speaking skills and gain confidence from working in this way.
Pricing:
Pay as you Go - £7.00 per hour
Block of 6 sessions (valid for three months) - £6.00 per hour. £36.
Block of 12 sessions (valid for 6 months) - £5.00 per hour. £60

Strensham Bookgroup
Held monthly (apart from August), usually Wednesday 7.30-9pm
A friendly, welcoming group who recently celebrated their 10th birthday. Each month a different member hosts the group in the Village Hall, bringing wine & nibbles. We vote for the book we want to read from a choice of 3 provided by that month's host and discuss the book we read the preceding month, giving it a score out of 10. Recent books have included Little Red Chairs by Edna O'Brien, Cartes Postales by Victoria Hislop, Five Days by Douglas Kennedy.
If you'd like more information, please email Liz.
